Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about Basis.
Basis is a property expense tracker built for real estate investors. Upload bank statements or connect your bank, and Penny categorizes everything automatically — separating CapEx from repairs and generating Schedule E reports for tax time.
Penny analyzes each transaction and automatically assigns it to the right expense category based on the merchant name, amount, and your past corrections. She learns from every change you make and gets more accurate over time.
Penny is your AI assistant that knows your entire portfolio. Ask her questions like "What's my cash flow this year?", give her batch commands like "Mark all income from Apartments.com as rent for Main Street," and she'll proactively flag anomalies like missing rent or unusual charges.
Spreadsheets can't auto-categorize transactions, don't separate CapEx from repairs, won't generate Schedule E reports, and can't alert you when rent is late. Basis does all of that automatically — plus you get an AI assistant that knows your entire portfolio.
Basis includes Penny, an AI assistant that answers questions about your portfolio, handles batch categorization commands, and proactively detects anomalies like late rent and unusual charges. Stessa doesn't offer AI assistance or batch operations.
An iOS app is coming soon! You'll be able to snap receipts, review transactions, and chat with Penny right from your phone. Sign up for a free account to get notified when it launches.
